Music Ministry

The great composer Johann Sebastian Bach said, “The aim and final reason of all music is none else but the glory of God and the refreshment of the spirit.”  St. Rita is blessed to have gifted singers and instrumentalists who participate in our music ministry week after week.  It is our goal to provide music for the parish that glorifies God and ministers to the saints and all who worship with us.

“The spiritual dimension of sacred music refers to its inner qualities that enable it to add greater depth to prayer, unity to the assembly, or dignity to the ritual. Sacred music is holy when it mediates the holiness of God and forms the Holy People of God more fully into communion with him and with each other in Christ.”
(Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship 69)

Music plays a vital role in liturgies celebrated in our Catholic faith. As members of St Rita Parish, we “sing” the liturgy at all our Masses. Music is not an enhancement, a filler, or accompaniment. The music we sing in its many forms is intrinsic to ritual; music is the nature of the liturgical moment itself. We provide music for both the joyful and difficult times in our lives. Nothing can soothe the soul and provide solace like music. We invite anyone who loves to sing and those who are proficient in their instrument. There are no auditions, the door is always open!  We welcome EVERYONE to this flexible and fun spirited group!

The Music Ministry Program at St Rita Parish consists of over thirty parishioners! We are truly blessed to have cantors, instrumentalists, two adult choirs (one each for the 8 am and 10:30 am Masses).  All these musicians provide music at our three weekend liturgies!

Cantors (Adult)

Cantors lead the assembly in song.  Anyone who has prior experience or has been a member of the music program for at least one year is eligible to cantor. Audition is required. All adult cantors are expected to be available on a rotating basis at least twice a month.

8:00 AM and 10:30 AM Choirs

Anyone is invited to join.  No audition is required.  Come as you are!  This flexible, fun-spirited group is always looking for new members.  The choir rehearses, from September through May, on Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm in the Church.  Depending on the Mass you select, the choir sings each week at the 8 am and 10:30 am Masses, along with several special liturgies such as Christmas Eve and Holy Week.
