Our Parish Emblems

sacred_heart.jpgThe emblem of the Augustinian Order has been a part of our parish since its inception. The parish was founded by and continues to be served by members of the order. The emblem represents the Augustinian spirituality. The flaming heart is the human heart. It symbolizes Augustine's love of God and his fellow brothers and sisters. The Augustinian heart is passionately alive with the desire to know God and experience divine love in our lives. The open book represents St. Augustine's own conversion to Christianity and the Scriptures. It also symbolizes the Word of God, source of light and truth, and the quest for wisdom. The arrow which pierces the heart represents the Spirit of God piercing our hearts, calling us to continued growth in faith, hope and love. This is the basis of that great restlessness, so typical of St. Augustine, which led him to seek God in all things and above all things.

eucharist_seal.jpgThe second emblem was adopted by our parish council in September, 1999. It reminds us that when we gather together around God's table, celebrate His love, and share the Body and Blood of His Son, we become one - we become the Body of Christ. As the physical presence of Christ in the world today, we must follow His example by ministering to those in need and by educating others about Him while we ourselves continue to study His Word and grow in our personal knowledge of Him. We must be a loving community, bearing patiently with one another and welcoming all. We must be "Christ centered in all that we do."
